Permits for transportation of dangerous goods

Read here how to apply for a permit to transport dangerous goods

Certain types of dangerous goods may only be shipped under special permits. These are:

  • Explosives – class 1
Explosives may only be shipped under a valid import permit from the Government of Greenland.
  • Contagious waste – class 6.2
Contagious hospital waste may only be shipped under a written permit from the Danish Maritime Authority. Royal Arctic Line can provide assistance in obtaining the permit. The shipper should therefore contact the local harbour/port for a preliminary permit and for booking.
  • Radioactive substances – class 7
Radioactive substances may only be transported under a written permit from the Danish Maritime Authority. Such a permit must be obtained by Royal Arctic Line A/S. The shipper must therefore contact the local harbour/port for a preliminary permit and for booking.

Furthermore, certain port/harbour facilities have specific limitations for which types of dangerous goods they can handle. Efforts will be made to obtain a list of which quantities that may be stored in the various towns as soon as possible.
